Best abstract award for SME paper

In June 2024, Dr Mahmoud (Maka) Khalik gave a paper at the Irish International Business and Management Conference 2024. The event was held in Maynooth University and addressed the theme, ‘The UN’s Sustainable Development Goals: the role of international business and management research’.

Winner of the Best Abstract Award in the international business and international management category at the conference, the paper was titled, ‘The internationalisation of emerging market location-intensive service SMEs: legitimacy motives and the born-again local path’. It was written with co-author Dr Jose Godinez from the Manning School of Business at the University of Massachusetts Lowell, who has been a guest speaker in the innovative MX (Masters Extra) programme for taught postgraduates, presenting sessions on business ethics in unstable or corrupt places.

Dr Khalik’s research expertise includes foreign direct investment (FDI), emerging markets, and small to medium sized enterprises (SMEs). He is Director of Teaching at the University of St Andrews Business School’s Department of Management.
