Prestigious European honour for Business School economist

The European Society for Population Economics (ESPE) announced the appointment of Professor David A. Jaeger, of the University of St Andrews Business School’s Department of Economics, as its president at its 38th annual meeting in Naples in June 2025. He will serve as programme chair for the 2026 ESPE conference at Aalto University, Helsinki, and deliver the presidential address at the 2027 meeting in Zagreb.
Founded in 1986, ESPE advances and disseminates research on population economics, drawing scholars worldwide to its annual conference.
An applied microeconomist whose work spans labour, education, and population economics, Professor Jaeger joined the University of St Andrews Business School in 2020. He said:
“It is a tremendous honour to be chosen to lead ESPE. I look forward to shaping an engaging programme for Helsinki and championing innovative population research across Europe.”
Professor Jaeger’s election underscores the Business School’s influence on global economic scholarship and highlights the University’s commitment to research that addresses pressing demographic and social challenges.
