Professor David Ulph named RES Fellow
The Royal Economic Society (RES) has appointed Professor Emeritus David Ulph CBE, FRSE, FREcon, FRSA, a Fellow, a highly regarded honour in economics, reflecting both his academic leadership and his wider influence on UK economic policy.
The RES is one of the world’s oldest and most prestigious economic associations, dedicated to advancing economics for the public good.
Its Fellowship Committee, chaired by Nobel Laureate Professor Sir Christopher Pissarides, unanimously approved his appointment. Professor Ulph joins a distinguished cohort of new Fellows, including two further Nobel Prize winners and colleague Professor David Jaeger, who received a Fellowship last year.
A leading figure in UK economics, Professor Ulph has held Chairs and served as Head of Economics Departments at the universities of Bristol and UCL, and as Head of the former School of Economics and Finance at the University of St Andrews.
Alongside his academic contributions in research, teaching and leadership, he has played a significant role in public policy. His senior appointments have included Chief Economist at HMRC, member of the NHS Pay Review Body, Commissioner of the Scottish Fiscal Commission, and his ongoing role as a member of the Competition Appeal Tribunal.
Professor Ulph said:

“I’m deeply honoured to have been elected a Fellow of the Royal Economic Society. It’s a privilege to be recognised by such a distinguished committee, and to be part of a group that includes some of the most respected economists in the world. I’ve always sought to bridge academic research and public policy, and I’m pleased this work has been valued.”
