Research by Dr Erven Lauw and Professor Ian Smith from the School’s Department of Economics has been featured on Phys.org.

Their study shows that citizens are more likely to feel represented and politically engaged when women hold a greater share of parliamentary seats. Drawing on cross-national survey data, the researchers link gender diversity in political institutions to higher levels of democratic legitimacy and public trust.
