Golden Dandelion Awards for School lecturers

The University’s Golden Dandelion Awards have recognised Business School lecturers for embedding sustainability in teaching. The University presented the 2025 awards at the Seeding New Ideas event on Wednesday 19 November.

EC4416 Innovation Economics received one of four high commendations across the University. Dr Luca Savorelli, Vice-Dean Education, originally designed the programme and co-taught it in 2024–25 alongside former colleague and module coordinator Lois Simanjuntak. The module explores how technological innovation interacts with environmental sustainability and how economic tools can help evaluate long-term trade-offs and societal impact. It includes a hands-on investigation of trends in patents data for wind turbines.
The awards also recognised modules led by Business School lecturers for meaningfully and innovatively embedding sustainability in the curriculum.

The Department of Management’s senior Honours module, MN4100 Contemporary Issues in Management, coordinated by Dr Fergus Neville and delivered by a large teaching team, examines topics such as artificial intelligence, decolonisation, leadership and wellbeing through the lens of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
IE0247 Foundation Management, coordinated by Dr Lori Leigh Davis, introduces students to key concepts, debates and models in responsible enterprise. The module encourages critical thinking about what constitutes responsible practice in contemporary business. It provides a foundation in academic skills while engaging students with a range of perspectives on sustainability, ethics and organisational purpose.

Dr Savorelli said:
“These awards recognise the thoughtful work our colleagues are doing to bring sustainability into the heart of teaching. It takes time, care and a willingness to innovate – and it’s inspiring to see that recognised across such a range of subjects.
“As a School, we want to create learning environments that challenge and support our students, that reflect the complexity of the world they will go into, and that stay true to our values. These awards are a reminder of the impact great teaching can have – and the shared purpose that drives our community.”
The University’s Sustainability in the Curriculum Committee oversees the Golden Dandelion Awards. The scheme recognises innovative, interdisciplinary modules that address real-world sustainability challenges and align with national guidance on education for sustainable development.
